Influence of Particle Properties on Filter Cake Compaction Behavior under Oscillatory Shear

Filter cake compaction is a common method for mechanical deliquoring of compressible filter cakes. In addition to the conventional squeezing method, applying oscillatory shear cakes at low pressure an alternative process in filtration. While basic differences terms success have already been identified various materials, systematic analysis influence material properties on behavior under missing. The present work addresses particle size distribution and increasing agglomeration further clarify knowledge applicability. compressibility achieved by this technique was investigated calcium carbonate materials with distributions. results show that potential increases from 17.3% coarsest (x50,3 = 23.5 μm) 26.6% finest 2.3 decreasing mean size. more widely distributed exhibits higher 21.7% compared 18.4% narrowly material. Increasing improve slurry filterability does not affect achievable states vibration sufficiently high energy input.
